What is F-1 Student Visa?
An F-1 Visa is issued to International students who are attending an academic or English language program at a US college or University. Students living outside the USA intending to study in the USA to continue their education at the following levels of study are required to obtain an F1 visa.
- High School
- Undergraduate
- Postgraduate
- Vocational Training
- English Language Training etc.
Under this visa, students are allowed to study in America and stay there throughout the duration of their study program. Under an F-1 visa students are allowed to enter the USA 30 days prior to the commencement date of their study program and they can remain in the US up to 60 days after the completion of the course.
Fee Structure
The fee structure solely depends on the type of qualification and university or college you choose. The U.S government standard set no fees so they are set by an institution. Fees may vary according to courses and subject to change, medicine and engineering are most likely to be expensive. Masters and especially MBA programs are the most expensive. Spent annually around US$10,000 and US$55,000.
- Undergraduate bachelor degree: $10,000 to $40,000 per year.
- Graduate programs: $10,000 to $30,000 per year.
- English Language Studies: $700 to $2000 a month.
- Community Colleges: $6000 to $20,000 per year.
- You will need to pay tuition fees before you start your studies in the USA.

Work Rights During Study in the USA
Students under F-1 visa allowed to work (20 hours per week) on campus however they’re not allowed to work off-campus throughout the 1st year of study. The DHS/ICE could grant permission for off-campus work when the first year is completed.
